This month, we’re spotlighting Adina, our Finance Admin, whose path took her from biochemical engineering to finance. Curious, self-taught, and endlessly organized, Adina brings dedication and warmth to everything she does.

Name

Adina Hurjui

Title/Role in the company

I am a Finance Admin. I work in the finance department with Alex Parge, and my role includes salary payments, invoices, contractor payments, and reports. I also handle Avalara 499 and mostly accounting tasks that we send to the accounting team in the US. I manage the affiliate payment system as well. Every month, we pay affiliates their commissions for the work they do for us. That’s about it.

When did you start working at smrtPhone?

I started in March 2024, so I’ve been here for two years and one month.

What’s your background?

I have a degree in Biochemical Engineering. After that, I became interested in health and ways to live a better life, so I pursued post-high school studies for three years to become a pharmacist. I’m mostly self-taught. I’m very curious and love learning and reading about different things.

Your background is in science, how did you transition into finance?

I worked in a warehouse where we sold medicines to hospitals and clinics. We participated in many auctions, where we had to prepare plans regarding pricing, stock, and other details. That experience led me to get involved in numbers, finance, and payments. It was a great experience for me. Interestingly, I didn’t like math much in school, but life and different events led me into this field.

What’s your first job?

My first job was as a salesperson in a store that sold supplements and cosmetic products. After that, I worked at my previous job for 11 years before joining smrtPhone.

What do you like about working for smrtPhone?

I like the vibe and the people at smrtPhone. Every day brings something new, which gives me the opportunity to grow professionally and research the things I work on daily. That brings me a lot of joy. As I mentioned, I’m a self-taught person, and I enjoy learning and staying aware of what I’m doing.

Describe smrtPhone in three words:

Reliable, continuous, and professional.

Reliable because whenever I have a question or get stuck, I know I can reach out and get help. Continuous because every month, we bring something new. The product keeps improving, and we are always evolving. Professional because the team is highly skilled, and everyone knows what they’re doing.

Is there a particular moment/project at smrtPhone that stands out and makes you feel proud?

Every day makes me proud of the work I do. But one moment that stands out was during our team-building event in my first year. I helped Alex organize the photo session for the team, and everyone said it was a great idea. The photographer did an amazing job, and the photos turned out beautifully. I also brought someone with electric bikes, and some of our colleagues enjoyed riding in the forest. Everyone was excited, and it felt great to pull that off.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family. Every weekend, we visit family or go out with friends, especially for barbecues when the weather is nice. I love reading and spending time with my 10-year-old daughter. It’s a challenging age, and she needs me a lot. I’m a sociable person and enjoy being around people. I’m also great at parties. When we gather in groups, we often sing together using microphones and lyrics online. It’s a lot of fun.

Name something that is on your “bucket list.”

I had a specific goal to own a car, and I achieved it. Other than that, I feel like I already have everything I want. At this stage in my life, my main focus is staying healthy. If you’re healthy, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

What’s a fun fact people might not know about you?

I practiced rhythmic gymnastics for nine years. Even now, I can still lift my leg above my head! I trained from age six until about 14 or 15. It was a beautiful experience, but I had to stop because it became difficult to balance school and training.

I competed in local and national competitions, and I even had the opportunity to join the national team. However, due to health issues, my parents didn’t allow it. Another teammate took that spot, but I don’t regret it. I believe that what’s meant to happen will happen.
