The Humans of smrtPhone

Welcome to our second installment of the series that highlights our awesome team members.

Name

Mircea Vintila

Title/Role in the company

I’m a Project Manager at smrtPhone. As Project Manager at smrtPhone, I’m working closely with Mihaela, our Product Manager, to turn quarterly goals into clear, actionable plans. I help keep the development team organized and on track by coordinating tasks, tracking progress, and making sure we deliver what we set out to do. I also help shape and maintain the processes that keep our work moving. Things like roadmap planning, weekly meetings, and task prioritization, to help make a smooth flow from idea to release.

When did you first start working at smrtPhone?

I joined in December 2023, so it’s been over a year now.

What’s your background?

Before joining smrtPhone, I worked in Customer Care in the telecom industry, starting with technical support at Romtelecom, which later became Telekom & T-mobile Romania. Over the years, I moved from technical support to leading my own team, and then became a project manager. In that role, I handled several large projects in areas like technical support, sales, and banking, making sure teams delivered great service and met business goals.

What was your first job?

Before launching my professional career, I had a seasonal job at a ski and snowboard repair shop during college. I did that for three winters until I started working in Customer Care.

What do you like about working for smrtPhone?

Definitely the people. That’s also how I ended up here-I already knew some of them before joining. There’s a strong sense of shared vision and attitude. It’s a collaborative environment where I genuinely enjoy working with everyone.

I was actually introduced to smrtPhone through Vlad. We were training together at a Jiu Jitsu gym and had known each other for two or three years. He had dropped a few hints about joining smrtPhone, but I was quite happy with my previous job at the time. Eventually, though, I reconsidered-and I’m really glad I did.

Describe smrtPhone in three words:

Human, Agile, Connection. “Human” because our approach is very people-centric, both in how we serve clients and how we collaborate internally. “Agile” because smrtPhone has shown remarkable adaptability through all kinds of challenges. “Connection” because of the strong bonds we have within the team, and because enabling communication is at the heart of our product.

Is there a particular moment/project at smrtPhone that stands out and makes you feel proud?

One that stands out was Vlad’s speech at our last team-building event. He described smrtPhone not as a family, but as a high-performance team. That perspective really resonated with me. It’s not just about being close-knit, it’s also about achieving results together. It gave me a deeper understanding of our roles in the company’s growth.

For the project, I’ve worked closely with Miha on several important projects, but one of the biggest efforts was overhauling our internal procedures for handling technical tasks and ticketing systems. That involved a lot of attention to detail and teamwork, and it’s rewarding to see how those improvements have impacted efficiency across the board.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I’m very into Jiu Jitsu-I train almost every morning, about five times a week. Saturdays are always reserved for family, especially for spending time with my nephew.

I’m also a fan of older horror movies, and I enjoy physical activities like basketball and roller skating, although I haven’t done those as much recently. I also dabble in classic video games-Diablo is one of my go-tos when I get the chance.

Name something that is on your “bucket list.”

Well, one of my dreams was to attend a Daft Punk concert, but unfortunately, they’ve disbanded. Still, I’m holding out hope they might reunite one day.

Another goal is to visit Japan-I’ve always been interested in the culture. I’d also love to visit Australia to see a friend I promised I’d visit. The only issue is that I don’t love flying, and those are some long flights. I’ll need to prep myself mentally and physically for that journey.

What is a fun fact people might not know about you?

A few years ago, I had long hair and looked a bit like Jesus! My old ID card still had that photo up until recently. It’s always good for a laugh.
